Welcome To EHS Careers & Core ClassesThe Exercise and Health Sciences Department rolled out a new curriculum that started this fall. The three areas of specialization are as follows. - Health Science - Fitness Instruction and Management - Exercise Science Health Sciences (HS) The Health Sciences track provides a sound scientific basis of health promotion and wellness while also offering flexibility for selecting particular courses geared towards individual career objectives in the health professions such as physical therapy, nutrition, nursing, physician assistant, and others. Fitness Instruction and Management (FIM) The Fitness Instruction and Management track provides a variety of fitness-related courses as well as several elective courses taken in the College of Management. This will be an ideal track for students interested in careers in fitness including jobs that involve proficiency in various business related skills such as management and sales. Exercise Science (ES) The Exercise Science track will provide students with the core experiences and training they need to pursue successful careers in cardiac rehabilitation, research, clinical exercise physiology, and exercise programs for special populations. Contact James.Auciello@umb.edu for more information on these programs. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Careers and Core Classes~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Health Science concentration will provide a sound scientific basis for students wishing to pursue future careers in: Graduate nursing Physician assistant Physical therapy Occupational therapy Health promotion Public health Clinical research Other health professions In addition to preparing undergraduate students to immediately enter into a wide variety of health careers, this program is ideal for students who wish to one day pursue an advanced degree in the health professions. This track is also well suited for students exploring health careers such as those listed above but have not quite decided which specific path to pursue. A sample of courses that are integral to this track include: Anatomy and Physiology Chemistry Health Behavior Change Wellness Coaching Physical Activity & Health Introduction to Nutrition Advanced Topics (Research Seminar) Health Promotion & Teaching (Intermediate Seminar) Intro to Psychology Social Psychology ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Exercise Science concentration is ideal for students who wish to pursue careers in: Research Cardiac Rehabilitation Exercise Testing
