Cnhs Advisor Information

The following definitions can help you determine if you need to see your faculty advisor or a Student Affairs Specialists/Academic Advisor (Valerie Miller and John Mascetta).

  • SAS = (Academic Advisors) are available to meet with all nursing and EHS students regarding the interpretation of College and institutional requirements, policy issues, and to make student referrals to appropriate resources.  If you have concerns about progression through the program, registration or hold issues, or general issues you need to discuss, stop by to see a SAS during their posted office hours. Valerie and John each have set hours in which they are available.

Note: Traditional RN students are assigned to an SAS who is available for consultation throughout the semester. The advisor provides guidance related to course selection and makes referrals to appropriate campus resources. Online RN students are assigned to the online program coordinator.
  • Faculty Advisor = All generic nursing and EHS students are assigned to a faculty advisor who is available for consultation throughout the semester. The faculty advisor provides guidance related to careers, resources available to aid in students’ studies, and advice in course selection. The relationship between the faculty advisor and student involves the sharing of information which aids in the development and successful completion of educational plans. A list of faculty advisor assignments is located outside of the CNHS main office - posted each semester.
** You are NOT required to meet with your faculty advisor, it is optional depending on your needs.
  • OPEN ADVISING gives you the opportunity to meet and plan your classes with a faculty advisor or SAS. You will come to a set date and time to meet with an advisor to review the classes you have taken and plot out the courses you need to take the next semester. Open Advising is held in late November and late March and is required for students so that advising holds can be lifted and you can register for your classes.
