Prospective Nursing Student FAQs

For the NU BS program: Choosing Electives in Arts/Humanities/World/World Culture: Look at the column titled "New Dist" or "Dist". This column will list courses coded as AR, HU, WL and WC. Those approved courses will meet the CNHS elective requirements.

Considering the NU BS program:

Applicants through undergraduate Admissions are not required to complete college level courses prior to applying. However, applicants might consider taking the following courses while applying.

  1. Eng I, II – at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  2. Chemistry - 4 credits at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  3. General Bio – 4 credits at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  4. Statistics – at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  5. Intro to Sociology or Psychology – at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  6. A & P, I and II – 4 credits at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  7. Microbiology - at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  8. Human Growth & Development - you may take this course from other universities, a course such as Developmental Pyschology which MUST cover the life span and it will transfer and meet the requirements of NU230 at UMB. Please note - you cannot register for course NU230 at UMB prior to being admitted to the CNHS Nursing BS program.
  9. Nutrition - Biology at UMB or transfer courses allowed.

  • How do I register? GO to the One-Stop located in the UMB Campus Center. http://www.registrar.umb.edu/
  • Can I register as a non-degreed student?
    • For NON-NURSING courses - review the NU BS Curriculum, which lists the courses required. You CAN take any class up thru the 3rd semester EXCEPT for any course number beginning with NU.
    • For EHS courses, you must obtain permission from the program manager.

Where is UMass Boston located?

UMass Boston is located on the Boston Harbor about 4 miles South of downtown Boston. View directions.

Where is the CNHS building/office?

Where is the College of Nursing & Health Sciences located within the UMass Boston campus?

The College of Nursing and Health Sciences is located in the Science Building, on the 2nd and 3rd Floors. Administrative offices are mostly located on the 2nd floor with faculty on the 3rd floor. The Dean’s office and staff are located on the second floor. At the top of the stairs take a left towards the orange set of double doors, CNHS is located towards the end of the hallway on the right hand side. Once you arrive at the second floor face towards the main bank of windows that overlook the harbor. To the right, you will see the Lipke auditorium and to the right of that you will see a hallway that leads to the Deans Office, College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Where do I park to have quick access to the CNHS Science building?

You can access the CNHS from either parking lot. However, the North lot and the Beacon’s parking lot are the closest to the building. Hanidcapped parking is available in all parking lots.

How much is parking?

$6.00 a day. Short term parking is available as you enter the campus. All other parking lots charges the full rate.
