Prospective Nursing Student FAQs

For the NU BS program: Choosing Electives in Arts/Humanities/World/World Culture: Look at 5th column from the left titled "New Dist". This column will list courses coded as AR, HU, WL and WC. Those approved courses will meet the CNHS elective requirements.

Considering the NU BS program:

What classes should I take before applying to your CNHS program?

  1. Eng I, II – at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  2. CHEM130 – at UMB only
  3. General Bio – at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  4. Statistics – at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  5. Intro to Sociology – at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  6. A & P, I and II – at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  7. Microbiology - at UMB or transfer courses allowed
  8. Human Growth & Development - you may take this course from other universities, a course such as Developmental Pyschology which MUST cover the life span and it will transfer and meet the requirements of NU230 at UMB. Please note - you cannot register for course # NU230 at UMB prior to being admitted to the CNHS Nursing BS program.

General Registration:

  • What classes are offered this/next semester? Check the Course Search.
  • How do I register? GO to the One-Stop located in the UMB Campus Center. http://www.registrar.umb.edu/
  • Can I register as a non-degreed student?
    - YES - for NON-NURSING courses - review the NU BS Curriculum, which lists the courses required. You CAN take any class up thru the 3rd semester EXCEPT for any course number beginning with NU.
    - YES - for ESPE courses you can register for any class, but you must obtain permission from the ESPE Department before registering.

Where is UMass Boston located?

UMass Boston is located on the Boston Harbor about 4 miles South of downtown Boston. View directions.

Where is the CNHS building/office?

Where is the College of Nursing & Health Sciences located within the UMass Boston campus?

The college of Nursing and Health Sciences is located the in Science Building, 2nd and 3rd Floors. The Dean’s office and staff are located on the second floor along with the Learning Resource Center and Nursing lab. Once you arrive at the second floor face towards the main bank of windows that overlook the harbor. To the right, you will see the Lipke auditorium and to the right of that you will see a hallway that leads to the Deans Office, College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Where do I park to have quick access to the CNHS Science building?

Enter in either lane that leads to the upper level (UL) or lower level (LL) to the garage. Follow the signs posted in orange near the garage ceiling that directs you toward the Science Building and McCormack. Look out for the orange painted walls which indicate entry to the Science building.

From the garage, enter the set of double doors that lead to the Science building. You can either take the elevator or stairs to the second floor. Once you arrive at the second floor face towards the main bank of windows that overlook the harbor. To the right, you will see the Lipke auditorium and to the right of that you will see a hallway that leads to the Deans Office, College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

How much is parking?

$7.00 a day. $3.00 for 60 minutes or less. Anything over 60 minutes pays full day rate. There is no free parking on campus.
