Nursing’s Spiritual Roots in Contemporary PracticeThursday, March 26, at 7:00 p.m. at Mary Baker Eddy Library![]() Renowned author and theorist, Jean Watson, PhD, RN; Margaret (Peggy) Burkhardt, professor of nursing at the University of West Virginia, and Linda Kohler, supervisor of Christian Science Nursing Activities worldwide, come together for a conversation on the spiritual foundations of nursing.
Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) pioneered modern nursing; Mary Baker Eddy (1821-1910) established Christian Science nursing; and both drew on spiritual models in their work. In today’s practice, the call for spiritual sensitivity and focus in healing and caring remains strong. Watson’s ideas on nursing as a “caring science” have had a worldwide influence; Burkhardt has practiced and written extensively about holistic nursing; and Kohler has devoted her career to Christian Science nursing, which recently celebrated its 100th anniversary.
$5 admission—seating is limited; to make a reservation, please call 617-450-7200.
