Online RN-BS Curriculum

The Online RN-BS Program consists of five Online Nursing courses.

Nursing Courses                                                       Year I

Nursing 360 - Professional Issues in Nursing              6 credits

Nursing 361 - Health Assessment and Promotion       6 credits

Nursing 362 - Nursing Research and Informatics        6 credits

Upon successful completion of NU 360 Professional Issues in Nursing, students are awarded 41 transfer credits for nursing courses taken in their previous nursing program.

Nursing Courses                                                       Year II

Nursing 461 - Community Health Nursing for RN's      6 credits 

Nursing 462 - Legal, Ethical and Health Policy             6 credits

Additional Required Courses:

Statistics** 3 credits
Pharmacology* 3 credits
Nutrition* 3 credits
*The Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Nutrition and Pharmacology course requirements may be met by scoring 50% or higher on the National League for Nursing (NLN) Exam.  These exams are offered at UMass Boston.

**A course in statistics must be completed prior to entering NU 362, Nursing Research and Informatics.

UMass Boston Elective Requirements:

In addition to the five (5) online nursing courses, UMass Boston has additional requirements in order to obtain your Bachelors Degree. They are called General Education Requirements which are:

  • World Culture and World Language         6 credits
  • Arts and Humanities                                  6 credits
  • Electives                                                     7 credits

If you are unsure if a course from another college/university would count for a world culture, world language, art or humanities credit, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at 617-287-6100.  

Writing Proficiency Requirement

All undergraduate students must pass the Writing Proficiency Requirement (WPR).  Information on the WPR can be found at The Writing Proficiency Requirement at UMB.
