Nursing Master of ScienceThe MS program is designed for the baccalaureate-prepared registered nurse with a strong professional clinical background and is tailored to meet the needs of the busy professional. Theory courses meet once per week in the evening. Clinical practica are usually conducted during the day on schedules arranged between students and faculty. The program can be completed in four semesters of full-time study. Part-time enrollment is also possible. The BS and MS Nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). The BS program is approved by the Board of Registration in Nursing, Commonwealth of Massachusetts (BORN). Each student chooses one of three tracks:
The program's capstone experience is a comprehensive master's paper of publishable quality that synthesizes the student's educational experience. The comprehensive master's paper, a requirement for students graduating after December, 1999, is submitted at the beginning of the last semester of study. Graduate students at the College work with faculty members distinguished for their achievements as educators, scholars, and practitioners. Dedicated to developing students' professional and intellectual interests, graduate faculty provide a strong background in nursing theory, practice, and research. Students may pursue their individual professional objectives by participating in selected clinical practica with expert preceptors, and through independent study experiences designed in collaboration with faculty members. CNHS faculty research interests include policy and practice issues in the areas of quality of life; health care delivery; long term care; substance abuse in urban women; care giving in chronic disease and Alzheimer's disease; minority/ethnic diversity; health promotion, disease prevention, and self-care; cost containment and managed care; the effects of hospital mergers; community health and women's health; professional practice; theory testing; and instrument development.
